In addition to having the ability to amaze your friends with your pet’s brains (as well of course, as your skill as a leading dog trainer! ) ) , teaching your dog tricks helps you bond with your pet in lots of ways. DO keep your coaching sessions fast; 10-15 minutes at the most. Your dog can get bored and/or drained by hearing the same command over and over again and again repeating the identical action. The key is modest and frequently – daily if at all possible.
DO, where at all possible, make sure your training sessions are done without external distractions. Turn the TV and radio off and, once you’re beginning to teach a trick, just have you and your puppy in the room.
DO use the identical command throughout your dog’s training; don’t chop and change. A slight difference e.g.’turn’ and’turn around’ can be quite confusing for your furry friend, so be consistent.

DO give your dog lots of treats and praise when he gets it right.However do not overdo the snacks after your dog has learnt the suggestion. Gradually phase out the treats in order that you’re merely using the controls, hand gestures (if appropriate) and praise.

DON’T believe your dog is too old for suggestions. If he’s healthy and does not have any mobility issues, he’ll be OK. It is often easier to teach an older dog as a brand new puppy has a lot of additional training to take on board like toilet training and basic obedience training. Wait till he’s mastered that until you try to educate him any suggestions.
